Jake Abdullah
Veteran in the Malaysian media and entertainment scene with a career spanning over three decades! He is one of the pioneers of Astro where he started his career as a music director/announcer at Hitz FM in 1996. He rose from the ranks and in 2013 was promoted to CEO. He is also known as a DJ under the moniker Jakeman, where he still spins occasionally while hosting a weekly show on Fly FM.
He was seconded between 2012 – 2013 to initiate IM4U as CEO; where he reported to the Prime Minister. He successfully launched and executed several successful initiatives for IM4U. He has enjoyed regional success with the launch of several award-winning stations in Indonesia (Gen FM, JAK FM), India (Aamar FM, Power FM, Red FM) and was a Board member for ADREP (Astro’s China Radio operations). Apart from his role as CEO of Astro Radio, he also headed Rocketfuel Entertainment (Malaysia’s foremost talent and entertainment management company) as CEO, which focuses on social influencing, branded content, music, and so forth.
In August 2019, he left Astro Radio to join Fave Malaysia (formerly Groupon) as Managing Director. During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to join Pyjama Media as CEO, but the unprecedented impact of COVID has a tremendous impact on both startups and the traditional media industry; thus, he decided to leave in January 2020 and pursue his passions (which include fitness) as well as initiated a political podcast (OJ CHITCHATS). He joined Media Prima Audio as a Strategy Advisor from June 1st 2021 and is currently still serving in this position.
Datuk Jake holds an MBA from the University of Liverpool, and has attended the Harvard Senior Managers Program. He is currently pursuing his PhD with University Utara Malaysia. Jake also serves as an adjunct professor at UNITAR University and Taylors College in Kuala Lumpur and is in the Industry Advisory Board for UCSI University.
His aim is to one day, end up at Liverpool Football Club as a steward; I mean why not right?
